Machine Gun Employment Practice Test 2026 – Complete Exam Prep Guide

The primary support relationship for the machinegun squad during defense operations is general support. In this context, general support refers to the notion that the machinegun squad provides a broader coverage area to inflict firepower against enemy forces rather than limited or specific targets. This type of support allows the squad to engage multiple targets across the battlefield and to deliver suppressive fire to enhance the overall effectiveness of the defensive position.

In defensive operations, the machinegun squad plays a critical role in establishing a base of fire that can stifle enemy movements and support friendly troops. This relationship ensures that the machinegun team's capabilities are harnessed to create a robust defensive scheme that contributes to the unit's overall operational success. By being in a general support role, the squad is able to adapt its firing positions and targets based on the unfolding tactical situation, thus maximizing the impact of its firepower in defense operations.
